Class of 40-What???

During a Season 3, 1963, episode, Andy and Barney found one of their old high school yearbooks and got a laugh looking through it.

They thought it would be fun to get the old gang together. A class reunion was organized complete with a live band for dancing.

Doesn't that look like fun?

Then during a Season 6, 1966, episode, they attended another class reunion. 

That reunion had another lively looking dance band with a saxophone player.

Perhaps Andy and Barney were held back a couple years.

Perry Mason's Last Case

When I was a kid in the 1960's, we frequently watched "The Early Show" when we got home from school. Mostly black-and-white movies from the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's, I suppose.  We always enjoyed the Tarzan movies, especially when Johnny Weissmuller was the star.

One movie of the series included a character played by Raymond Burr, later known as the title character in the "Perry Mason" television series. That series first aired in 1957.

I do not recall the plot of the Tarzan movie with Raymond Burr. But I do recall that he got caught up in an elephant stampede and was killed. At which point one of my siblings said something like "That's Perry Mason's last case." We all thought that was hilarious.

About 8 years ago, Turner Classic Movies must have been highlighting Tarzan movies. I probably "watched" or sat through several of them. And suddenly, there was Raymond Burr. I stuck through until the end when Perry "lost his case."

I've since learned the title of that particular movie was "Tarzan and the She-Devil" from 1953.

While watching the movie in 2018, I made some screen-shots and created my own graphic.

"I Will Turn Methodist"

The title of this entry is one of my favorite lines from "The Waltons."

Grandma is explaining to Reverend Fordwick that she will not share playing the church organ with another woman:

"I cannot share with that woman. I will not resign my organ playing to just anyone. And if you toddy to that Zelma Maynard, then I will resign from this church, Reverend Fordwick."

She walks away, and then turns to the preacher and says:

One of my favorite episodes. Probably because Erin is a dweeb. I saw this episode today.

Kitchen Remodel

A funny thing happened between season 5 and season 6 of "The Andy Griffith Show."

Aside from the fact that the program went from black-and-white to color, Aunt Bee's kitchen was drastically remodeled: the kitchen's back door was moved.

In the first 5 seasons while in black-and-white, the door was in a side wall of the kitchen.  But starting in season 6, the door was located in the back wall.

That sheriff's job must pay pretty well that Andy was able to afford to have such an extensive remodel that moved an outside door.

We're Millionaires!!!

We saw the tail-end of Jeopardy! yesterday afternoon.  The category for Final Jeopardy was “female singers.”  I immediately said “Aretha Franklin” without the clue being exposed.  Surprisingly, Aretha Franklin was included in the clue.

The clue was revealed and John’s answer was “Who’s whats-her-name?”  I said to J., “Yes, I’m sure that’s the correct response.”  Then he said, “You know, from Nashville.”  I replied, “Yes, that narrows it down a lot …. A female singer from Nashville.”

But that got me thinking, and my answer became “Who is Taylor Swift?”  Bingo.  That was the correct response.  And it turned out to be the person J. was thinking of, too.  AND none of the contestants got it right.  Bonus!

We made our score a true daily double and wagered our combined $500,000, and now we’re millionaires!

Wondering what the Final Jeopardy clue was?  In 2013 she became only the third female singer after Aretha Franklin and Madonna to chart over 40 top 40 hits.
